Student Affairs Snacket
Over the past two weeks, another, more important March Madness was underway. Student Affairs put on what they call a Snacket—or Snack Bracket, the winner of which has now become a permanent addition to the office’s infamous treat selection. Voting occured via paper tickets in the Student Affairs office (potentially open to fraud might I add).
The week of March 28-31 was The Final Four, which consisted of Oreos vs. Rice Krispies Treats in the Sweet Division and Dot’s Pretzels vs. Pirates Booty in Salty.
To my dismay, Oreos beat out Rice Krispies Treats. The defeat sparked a heated debate (aka 5 minute conversation) among my friends about the pros and cons of Oreos. For me, the hard texture of the cookie and the inevitable crumbs knock them under Rice Krispies. Obviously, with milk, this problem is solved. Others thought that the dichotomy between the hard cookie and soft cream is what made Oreos unique. I guess we can agree to disagree.
As for the Salty Division, I had fewer strong opinions. Pirate's Booty is classic and addictive, but it takes 3+ bags for your body to realize you’ve eaten anything at all. Dots get better with each bite but sometimes I feel like the flavor is a little too distinctive (if that makes sense). I wasn’t sure which to vote for but I went for the Booty for no real reason. Dots ended up winning.
The real kicker was the final round, where Oreos faced off against Dots. Despite my reservations about Oreos without milk, I feel like there is a clear winner here. Considering the other snacks currently in the rotation, Oreos would make a wonderful addition. Before publishing this article, someone had misinformed me that Dots won, and I was briefly plunged into my deep despair. I suspected that fraud came into play. I imagined a Dots enthusiast sneaking into the office right before 5pm, submitting 100 votes for those pretzels. But lo, oh glorious day, that Dots’ victory was a lie! The winner was announced this Monday, April 7–look out for Oreos in Student Affairs coming soon!
